Jenna Ortega Leaves Scream 7

New final girl of the Scream franchise, Jenna Ortega, will reportedly not be returning for Scream 7.

Ortega, who plays Tara Carpenter, will not be reprising her role for the upcoming seventh film in the series due to scheduling conflicts. As reported by Deadline-

Ortega’s exit from the next Scream was discussed before the actors strike. A script for Scream VII is not ready yet, and the Primetime Emmy nominee has to head to Ireland in April to shoot the second season of Netflix’s Wednesday which will go into the summer. Additionally, Beetlejuice post SAG-AFTRA strike had a few extra days of shooting in order to meet its Labor Day 2024 theatrical release.

Of course this comes very shortly after Spyglass Media Group made the controversial move to fire Melissa Barrera for a series of social media posts regarding the ongoing situation between Israel and Hamas. However, the report does explicitly state this has nothing to do with Ortega's exit.

The Carpenter Sisters, Scream VI
This has nothing to do with the fallout from Melissa Barrera‘s firing yesterday by Spyglass Media over that actress’ social media repostings on the Hamas-Israel conflict; nor does it have to do with the actress asking for an end to her Scream contract.

With both Ortega and Barrera now out of the picture, it could make things easier for Spyglass to gloss over the Carpenter sisters absence as they did with Sidney Prescott's in Scream VI. Regardless, this is going to take a huge change of plan after making the Carpenter sisters the new faces of the Scream franchise.

Christopher Landon is still directing with Chad Villella, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett on board as executive producers. There is currently no word on whether or not the other core four members Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding, or legacy cast members like Courteney Cox and Hayden Panettiere will be retuning for the upcoming film.

More to follow.
