Hayden Panettiere has officially signed on to reprise her role as Kirby in Scream 6. A quick easter egg in the last Scream film confirmed Wes Craven's Scream 4 commentary that she survived being stabbed by Charlie.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter-
Panettiere, who was one of the stars of 2011’s Scream 4, has closed a deal to reprise her character in the latest instalment of Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures’ horror franchise.
Panettiere is the first legacy character to be confirmed for Scream, although Courteney Cox said in March she's in the process of reading the script and will most likely return nothing official has been announced as of yet. Neve Campbell is also rumoured to return but nothing has been officially announced as of yet.
In other news, survivors from 2022 film are also set to reprise their roles for the next sequel. Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Jenna Ortega have all signed on for the sixth film with production set to start this summer.
At the helm are Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett with James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick co-writing the screenplay. Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak are serving as producers.
Creator Kevin Williamson and the third member of Radio Silence, Chad Villella, are executive producing alongside Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad and Marianne Maddalena. Fans can expect the next Scream to release in theatres worldwide on March 31, 2023.
