Cold Iron Studios has finally unveiled the first look at their upcoming Alien video game that will release on various consoles and PC this summer.
The latest video game offering from the Alien franchise puts players back in the shoes of the infamous Colonial Marines for a third-person, three-player cooperative survival shooter in an ongoing battle against the ever-growing threat of the Xenomorph menace.
The story takes place 23 years after the events of Alien 3, in a world where the Aliens’ existence is no longer a secret, and players must head into infested locations to eradicate the Hive and all of its slimy, shiny monstrosities.
The game features four different campaigns with three main missions in each that can have variable aspects in every play-through including modifying ‘Challenge Cards’ and difficulty effects. The campaigns all take places in different environments, all of which have been heavily influenced by locations within the Alien universe.
The game promises 20 various enemy types, with 11 Xenomorph variants among them. Some Alien Xenomorph types are only found in certain campaigns with a mix of the classic designs like the Warrior and Queen, and new types such as the Burster, which is effectively a walking acid bomb.
Cold Iron Studios was also quick to stress the game's replayability due to its challenge card system - which offers over 40 different challenges that you can apply at the beginning of missions. Ranging from visual changes like a Noir mode or a tac-cam mode, to challenges that add more enemies or require you to only get headshots, the challenge card system will "allow players to choose how to mutate and play through missions."

Of course the game is heavily inspired by the various Alien films, but the developers have tried to give fans something new to enjoy. Instead of making characters from the films playable, players will be able to customise their very own Colonial Marine, and select from five different Class Loadouts (Gunner, Demolisher, Technician, Doc, and Recon) to take on the Aliens. Part of me is sort of hoping they follow in the footsteps of Predator: Hunting Grounds and make some of those iconic characters from the films (Hicks and Hudson especially please!) downloadable and playable at a later date.
Aliens: Fireteam will release Summer 2021 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC (via Steam).
