Coming straight from CinemaCon Sony Pictures has made two huge announcements within the last 24 hours. We can expect a brand new Ghostbusters film, as well as a third Venom film.
This will be the fifth Ghostbusters film, if you include the atrocious 2016 film, after Jason Reitman brought the original cast back for a sequel film last year. And much to fans delight (myself included, you can read my review HERE) that included our beloved Harold Ramis as Egon Spengler with the aid of visual effects. Being a hit with the fans and grossing over $200 million worldwide, it's easy to see why Sony would love to continue the franchise. And of course that post credits scene does open up the franchise up to new possibilities.
Nothing has yet been revealed in regards to story, cast or if Reitman will return to the franchise. Although he has previously stated he would love to pass the baton to other filmmakers and allow them to bring their own ideas into Ghostbusters.
"We wanted to make a movie that opened the universe to all kinds of stories. I want to see Ghostbusters movies from all of my favourite directors and I hope this movie sets the table for them."
Also announced was a third film in the Spider-Man spin off series Venom. Again Sony have yet to announce anything in regards to the film except the fact that it is happening. Sony have been teasing fans for a while that we could potentially see Tom Hardy's Venom square off against Tom Holland's Spider-Man. And of course with that post credits in Spider-Man: No Way Home it is looking more likely that we'll get to see that before the Sinister Six assemble.
More to follow.
