Leigh Whannell in Talks to Direct The Wolfman

Back in May we reported that Universal were moving forward with a brand new adaptation of their iconic Universal Monsters movie The Wolfman. The film was being developed to star Ryan Gosling with Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo writing the script.

As of then, there was no director on board. But now, as reported by Deadline, Leigh Whannell is currently in negotiations to direct the film.

"Universal Pictures has set its Wolman project on a fast track to production. Leifg Whannell is negotiating to direct Ryan Gosling in the lead role."

Jason Blum's Blumhouse has also signed onto the project, and after they found success with The Invisible Man (grossing $124 million worldwide on a $7 million budget) it's no wonder they want Whannell.

Whannell will also be writing the treatment for the film based off of an idea of his. His treatment will also be inspired by the 1941 classic starring Lon Chaney Jr. in the title role. Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo are still on board to pen the script.
