Fresh from directing the $1.5 million grossing Spider-Man: No Way Home, Jon Watts has set his sights on the horror genre. And even better he has teamed up with New Line Cinema to breathe new life into a much loved franchise horror fans haven't heard from since the fifth film released in 2011.
As reported by Variety, Watts has come on board to produce a sixth Final Destination film with New Line Cinema. Watts’ wife and partner, Dianne McGunigle, is also producing, alongside longtime “Final Destination” producers Craig Perry and Sheila Hanahan Taylor.
“Both Dianne and I have been massive fans of ‘Final Destination’ from the very beginning. So to be able to have a hand in crafting a new story with the original team and New Line is going to be both fun and exciting.” - Producer Jon Watts
Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor are on writing duties, adapting a treatment from Watts himself. Although they have yet to give any indication of a release date, news has broke the film will premiere on streaming service HBO Max. With the franchise currently sitting on a $657 million worldwide gross, it's no surprise we're getting another one. And I for one cannot wait!
