Living Dead Media have just given us horror fans one hell of a Christmas present this year as they announce a new Return of the Living Dead film releasing next year.
The first teaser recently released and revealed a familiar face would be making his return to the big screen. From Living Dead Media and director Steve Wolsh (Muck, Kill Her Goats), the Christmas-themed sequel Return of the Living Dead will be releasing Christmas 2025.
The new teaser shows the iconic Return of the Living Dead zombie known as Tarman dragging a Christmas tree through a cemetery as a blizzard rages around him. Check it out below.
“Fans of the film will know not to expect to see any returning characters, given their terrible fates in the original,” Living Dead Media revealed As reported by Fangoria, the film will be a sequel to the original film.
In much the same vein as 2022’s Scream, the new film apes the original’s title exactly, set in a small Pennsylvania town in 1985, eighteen months after the events of the original film. While we don’t know who will appear on-screen to battle the Tarman, we do know that it won’t be a reboot or remake of the franchise, and will honour the original’s legacy, according to director Steve Wolsh.
Writer director Wolsh is reportedly committed to making the whole film with the same devotion to old school in-camera storytelling. The teaser clip was produced without CGI or green screen, using all practical effects on location- Wolsh and his team built this cemetery much like Resurrection Cemetery was for the first film. As outlined on their website, it took several days and included installing forty feet of real iron fencing and nearly 100 real gravestones.
“Utilizing our widescreen anamorphic lenses, we captured the practical snow effects swirling against the night sky that gives it an amazing look and texture; it’s going to blow people away seeing an entire film made like this.” - Steve Wolsh
Return of the Living Dead is not a reboot or a remake, but a brand new adventure. Audiences can expect to be welcomed back into the dark humoured, edgy, Trioxin fuelled world of horror fans first encountered in 1985.
