Looks like Scream 5 is officially happening

Late last year we reported that SpyGlass Media was currently developing a new Scream film, and today it's been revealed to be officially happening.

The news dropped today via Discussing Film. Reportedly the duo behind Ready or Not, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, will be directing. In another exciting turn of events, Scream's original writer Kevin Williamson is returning to the franchise as an executive producer, fingers crossed he'll be writing it as well.

Here's all the info regarding the story so far-

"Plot details are scarce but sources say it will follow a woman returning to her home town to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes. It is unknown if it will follow the story of the past four ‘Scream’ films or pave a new direction for the franchise."

Whatever they do I just hope they pay due respect to Ghostface and Craven's work. It can't get any worse than the series though...right?
