Hocus Pocus 3 Back In Development

A third Hocus Pocus film is officially back in development at Disney, with Midler, Parker and Najimy reportedly set to reprise their roles as the Sanderson Sisters.

Hocus Pocus 3 is officially in early development from Disney Live Action Studios, with stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy reprising their roles as the Sanderson sisters.

We understand there are plans for a theatrical distribution component this time around, following the success of 2022’s straight-to-streaming Hocus Pocus 2, available exclusively on Disney+. However, the studio declined to comment as the project is still in its infancy.

This update comes after Sean Bailey (former President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production) first announced the news back in 2023. Unfortunately, the film was left in limbo after his exit from Disney in 2024. Bette Midler herself also revealed the news back in October last year stating, “They sent a script, and a lot of it was brilliant. So I got very excited, and now we’re sort of trying to figure out what it is and where it’s going to be and how much it’s going to cost and all those logistical things.”

The halt in negotiations reportedly came down to salary negotiations with Midler, Parker, and Najimy, all of which have since been worked out.

1993’s Hocus Pocus sees three 17th-century witches — Winifred (Midler), Sarah (Parker), and Mary (Najimy) — resurrected on Halloween to steal the life essence from the children of Salem, Massachusetts.

The witches returned 29 years later in Hocus Pocus 2, with three high-school students tasked with stopping the ravenous sisters from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallows’ Eve. The details of what we can expect from the third is currently being kept under lock and key.
