Chris Columbus Provides Update on 'Gremlins 3'

The animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai will mark the return of the Gremlins franchise after 30 years...but what about another Gremlins film?

There's been multiple different rumblings and rumours of a third film over the last few years as the film's original writer Chris Columbus has attempted to get it off the ground. Speaking with Collider recently regarding his upcoming sequel The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two, he offered a bit of insight as to what is currently holding the film back as well as what fans could expect.

“I would love to do it. I wrote a script, so there is an existing script. We’re working out some rights issues right now, so we’re just trying to figure out when the best time to make that film would be. I would still do it the same way – I would do it as tangible puppets, not CGI. Maybe having — you know we had one stop-motion scene in the first Gremlins, but I don’t think I’d use much CGI in Gremlins 3.”

Although the third film is still stuck in development hell it's great to know if these monsters did return to the big screen, we'd see puppets again and not CGI. Hopefully, the animated series releasing in 2021 drums up enough interest in the franchise that Warner Bros. sort out getting Gremlins 3 made!
